How To Detail Your Car (Simple Tips!)

It’s 2023, and it’s time to take care of your car inside and out! Detailing your vehicle is a great way to do it! Maybe you started your car care journey last year and are looking to step it up.

Like all things, you should begin this process with ease and patience. Below, I list some of my favorite car detailing tips that anyone can do. Sure, you can get into the more in-depth cleaning later–for now, you can focus on this totally doable list!

Use Microfiber Cloths

Microfiber cloths are going to be your car's best friend.

The first thing you should do when cleaning your car is to use a microfiber cloth. Microfiber cloths are great for cleaning your car because they absorb more dirt than regular towels, which means you can clean with less effort and fewer chemicals. They're also perfect for detailing because they won't scratch the surface of your car's paint job or leave lint behind like other types of cloths might.

Use A Paintbrush On Your Air Vents

Got an old dollar store paintbrush in your closet? You have the tools to clean your air vent!

Air vents will be an essential cleaning task–whether your A/C or heat is on, you’re breathing in everything your air vent is blowing out. With this paintbrush tip, you must dust the airbrush with the tiny bristles. Just be sure to carefully remove any dust or dirt before you start using your brush; otherwise, you may end up scratching up your car's interior even more than before!

Spray Your Vehicle With Upholstery Spray

Get your car's upholstery to smell as good as new by spraying a fabric spray or fabric softener on the interior. This will make your car smell good and help protect the fabric from the sun. Fabric spray also acts as a protector to help prevent stains and odors from setting in. Fabric spray is a good, cheap alternative for people who don’t have access to commercial leather conditioners or leather cleaners.

Vacuum Like Your Life Depends On It!

Okay, you probably know how a vacuum works and that it’s an excellent tool for detailing. But don’t forget to add that elbow grease!

Most people use a vacuum to get the job done by doing one quick pass-over, but there are some other great tricks that can help you. First, start with a quick pass to get off most loose dirt and debris. If you’re using a vacuum with a hose extension, don’t forget to do the edges and backseat corners after that first pass. A second pass is usually where many dirty spots are cleaned up. Don’t be afraid to apply some pressure here!
